Percentages to Decimals

The word percentage comes from the Latin per cent and means out of a hundred.

To change a percentage number to a decimal number, divide the percentage number by 100.

To change a decimal number into a percentage, multiply by 100.

Examples

1. Change this percentage to a decimal number: 46.5%

Answer: 0.465

Divide 46.5 by 100 = 0.465.

2. Change 0.02 to a percentage.

Answer: 2%

Multiply 0.02 by 100 = 2.
