Percentages to Decimals

The word percentage comes from the Latin per cent and means out of a hundred.

To change a percentage number to a decimal number, divide the percentage number by 100.

To change a decimal number into a percentage, multiply by 100.

Example 1

Change this percentage to a decimal number: 46.5%

Divide 46.5 by 100 = 0.465.

Answer: 0.465

Example 2

Change 0.02 to a percentage.

Multiply 0.02 by 100 = 2.

Answer: 2%
